Mangaluru, Feb 9: A part of a house in Homalke in Beluvai gram panchayat limits near Moodbidri on the outskirts of the city was heavily damaged, injuring three persons, due to a blast from a possible gas leakage from the gas geyser in the bathroom.

The injured are Noorjahan Syed (27), his wife Naseema (22) and 3-year-old daughter Zoya, who were immediately rushed to Manipal Hospital.
A person named Anwar from Beluvai had built a building adjacent to his home, renting out four shops in the lower storey and four homes in the upper storey of the building. One of the homes in the upper storey was rented by Noorjahan from Theerthahalli in Shimoga, who earned his living as an auto electrician.
The blast occurred at around 8 a.m. on Sunday. Having rushed outside the house after smelling the gas leakage, the family narrowly escaped from major injuries.
Due to the impact of the blast, the walls of the home are said to have collapsed while several items have been damaged. The blast is also said to have caused a huge crack along the height of the building, resulting in a huge loss to the owner of the building.
The police suspect that the pressure of the gas leaked from the geyser at a time when the windows were closed may have caused the blast. Moodbidri police inspector Ananth Padmanabha visited the building and inspected the scene of the blast.
