Mangaluru, Aug 2: The new Kadaba and Moodbidri taluks will become operational on August 15, Urban Development and Housing Minister U.T. Khader, who is Minister in-charge for Dakshina Kannada, said here on Thursday.

The State government announced, for the second time, the creation of the two taluks on March 15, 2017.

The then Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar too had made the same announcement in the 2013-14 budget.

Kadaba taluk will be carved out with nine villages from Puttur taluk and seven villages from Sullia taluk. All the villages in the Moodbidri Hobli will form part of Moodbidri taluk. With this, Dakshina Kannada would have seven taluks. The taluk offices of Kadaba and Moodbidri will start functioning on August 15.

Following a review meeting at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Khader told reporters that all departments will open offices in rented buildings. Directions have been issued to appoint officers and post necessary staff for these offices.

If officers cannot be posted on a full-time basis, then the officers should be given additional charge of the new taluk units.

Mr. Khader said that there would be some hiccups in the functioning of the taluk offices for the first few days and people have to bear with some inconvenience in getting services.

The Minister said that action has been initiated for the construction of the Mini Vidhana Soudhas at Kadaba and Moobidri.

Apart from the Revenue Department, offices of the survey, sub-registrar and treasury will be located at the Mini Vidhana Soudhas, he said.

Mr. Khader said that the Kadaba taluk will be inaugurated at 10.30 a.m., while Moodbidri taluk will be inaugurated at 4 p.m. on August 15.

The Minister said that beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Anila Bhagya Scheme were yet to be given domestic gas connection.

Of the 48,601 beneficiaries, the State government has planned to give connections to 15,858 households in Dakshina Kannada in the first phase of implementation.

Mr. Khader said that the district was the first in processing applications under Section 94 (C) and 94 (CC) of Karnataka Land Revenue Act seeking regularisation of unauthorised occupation of government land in rural and urban areas, respectively.

As against 95,714 applications under 94 (c), the district administration has issued title deeds in 81,077 cases.

Of the 36,650 applications under 94 (CC), 24,559 have been cleared. The remaining applications will be processed in another three months, he said.
