Mangaluru, Feb 19: The continued reluctance by the government-owned and private airlines of India to connect Mangaluru directly with Riyadh and Jeddah has caused disappointment among thousands of Indian expatriates in Saudi Arabia.

Moreover, the Jet-Etihad tie-up has now opened more possibilities of linking Mangaluru to all the Airports of Saudi Arabia under code sharing agreement.
However, the plea of thousands of expatriates from coastal Karnataka working in and around Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia and Jeddah, a prominent religious tourism destination in Western Province of the kingdom, has gone unheard by the airlines until now.
Meeting with Jet Airways
Representing NRI organizations and individuals in the kingdom, Coastaldigest.com has been constantly exerting pressure on the Aviation Ministry and airlines to fulfill their demands. In a bid to convince the airline the need for more flights between Mangaluru and Saudi Arabia, Coastaldigest.com team is expected to hold another round discussion with the authorities of Jet Airways next week.
As per estimations, around two lakh expatriates from Mangaluru and surrounding districts are working in different parts of Saudi Arabia, including Riyadh and Jeddah. Many of them often visit their homeland.
