Udupi, Jun 19: Shreesha Shiroor, a 29-year-old mechanical engineer from Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering, has been anointed as the disciple and successor of Sri Viswapriya Theertha Swamiji of the Udupi Admar Mutt.
Amidst a grand function in the presence of galaxy of religious heads, the young and learnt swamiji was coronated as the 33rd pontiff of Sri Admar mutt on Thursday.
The religious rituals prior to the appointment of the successor had begun at Durgadevi Temple in Kunjarugiri on June 16.
Shreesha has studied Vyakarana, Mahabharatha Thathparya Nirnaya, Amarakosha and other primary lessons through Padubidri Laxminarayana Sharma — a retired principal of Sanskrit College, Udupi. He was being taught Vishnutathwa Nirnaya by Ganapathi Acharya at Sri Admar Mutt, Udupi.
He would be sent to Sri Vidyadheesha Theertha of Sri Palimar Mutt for further study of 'Shastra'. Shreesha hails from Shiroor in Hiriyadka, Udupi district. He lives with his parents Chandrashekar and Gowri.
