Non-governmental organisations working for the HIV-positive will, in association with the Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society, has organised a Vadhu-Vara Samavesha for HIV-positive people at Hirisave in Channarayapatna taluk. The two-day event being organised to mark the 155th birth anniversary of Swamy Vivekananda commenced on Friday.

Ravi Kumar, a supervisor with the AIDS prevention programme, said the Jeevanashraya Network of Hassan, Vaidya School of Nursing, Sneha Sinchana Institute, and Prerana and Community Health Centre at Hirisave have joined hands to organise the event.
“For the first time, we are organising such an event inviting people from across the State. All these years similar events were held by NGOs in small gatherings,” he said.
“The aim of the programme is to provide a platform for those interested to lead a life together. So far, more than 150 people have registered to take part in the programme. We will bring them face to face at the programme. For one whole day, doctors and counsellors will hold sessions on their future life. Then we will get them information of people whose profiles they like,” he said.
Mr. Ravi Kumar said as there are restrictions on revealing the identity of HIV-positive people, the organisers have taken care to avoid the entry of the general public at the programme. Those who have registered will be allowed inside along with their parents.
Everyone, including volunteers, participating in the event will get identity cards. “We will not allow anyone to take photographs or video record things at the event,” he added.
Those interested in taking part in the event may call 08172-235088/ 89709 25892/ 88616 63775.
