
Jeddah, Feb 4: In a gruesome road accident, at least four Umrah pilgrims including a one-year-old boy from Uppala in Kasargod district died on the spot at Al-Muzahimiyah in Saudi Arabia on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Latheef, his father Arabi (63), mother Ayishabi (53) and his son Lisaan. They are all residents of Kedakkar Kubanoor in Uppala.
Five people, including Latheef 's wife Nisha (26), a resident of Mudipu, his two other children, Lasaan and Lihaan sustained serious injuries in the accident. Nisha 's brother Nissar was also with them when the tragedy struck the family. The injured are being treated at hospital in Riyadh.
The accident occurred when the car in which they were travelling, after performing Umrah, turned turtle hitting a road divider. The impact of accident was such that the car turned into a bundle of metal beyond recognition. The police had a tough time extricating the bodies from the mangled remains of the vehicle and shifting them to hospital.
The family was on an Umrah pilgrimage. Abdul Latif, a manager in a private company, was staying in Riaydh with his wife and kids had brought his parents on visitors ' visa.
The identities of victims revealed after the injured regained consciousness in the hospital on Monday. They are recuperating well, sources said. Relatives, friends and well-wishers gathered at their residence in Kubanoor Kedakkar soon after the news of the tragedy spread. Brothers of Abdul Latif, Altaf and Siraj are making arrangements to receive the body at home.
Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader is also in touch with the authorities concerned regarding the issue.
