Puttur, Jul 13: In the 21st century, globalization has turned every family into a marketplace. Greed for money has made families become detached and disregard their emotional attachments and relationships, lamented former union minister Murli Manohar Joshi.
Speaking after inaugurating the 50th anniversary celebration programme of Vivekananda College in Puttur, Mr Joshi said that the basic philosophy of globalization, which focuses on material acquisition, did not align with the Indian emphasis on spiritual development. “According to our culture, the entire world is one single family. However, rise in commercialization and mall culture is ruining the foundation of our culture and beliefs,” he said.
He lamented that despite several promises of the upliftment of the poor, provision of good governance and maintenance of peace could not be achieved. The poor have remained poor, while corruption is rampant. There is a need for inspection among the people in the society as it is the educated masses who fall prey to corruption and contribute to the failure of good governance, he noted.
He encouraged students to take up the mission of rendering service to the country and make it their goal to spread more love and brotherhood among the human race.
