Mangalore, Oct 23: Two Mangalorean achievers who won gold medals in the recently concluded international powerlifting championship were accorded grand reception on their arrival in the city on Thursday.
Vijaya Kanchan and Akshata Poojarthi won two gold medals each in the World Bench press, Dead Lift, Powerlifting Championships 2014 held at Las Vegas, US. The championship was held from October 17 to October 20.
The duo came by a flight from Mumbai to the Mangalore International Airport in the afternoon.
Mangalore Mayor Mahabala Marla, Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar, Honorary Secretary of Karnataka Powerlifting Association Sathish Kumar Kudroli were present to receive the achievers.
Thanking the fans, who thronged the Airport to welcome them, the medalists said that their hard work and blessings of the Indians have yielded result.
However, Mr Kanchan lamented about the alleged negligence of consequent state governments of Karnataka towards fulfilling the needs and demands of powerlifters unlike neighboring states.
