Mangaluru, Jun 23: Within three weeks after a jewellery store was robbed in BC Road on the outskirts of the city, a special team of Dakshina Kannada district police have nabbed the accused from West Bengal.

The accused, who was a goldsmith at the same store, fled with the gold on the pretext of going out for tea, said Bhushan G Borase, superintendent of police. When he did not return after a long time, the suspicious shop owner checked the store and found jewellery weighing 274gm missing.
A three-member team headed by Sanjeeva K, ASI, Bantwal town police, was constituted to track the accused, the SP said. The team went to West Bengal and traced Rawat with the help of the local police there.
Rawat was arrested and brought back to Mangaluru. Police also recovered gold jewellery valued at Rs 5 lakh and weighing 229 grams from his possession.
