Mangalore, May 15: A delegation led by Karnataka state Hajj Committee executive officer Sheik Latheef requested Deputy Commissioner N Prakash to sanction land to construct proposed Hajj Ghar in Mangalore.

In a memorandum submitted to the DC, Mr Latheef said that Muslim leaders in the coastal city have identified 2.18 acre land located at Kenjaru in Surathkal Hobli Survey number 16 for the purpose.

He said since the number of Hajj pilgrims have been increasing with every passing year, the necessity of Hajj Ghar also has increased. It will have all the modern facilities for a comfortable stay of the pilgrims and provide accommodation and other amenities from this region.

In previous years, Hajj camps were conducted at Old terminal building. Since old terminal building was handed over to Department of Cargo and Coast Guards this year, there is no place to conduct camps he said.

He requested the government to sanction the identified land as soon as possible as the next pilgrimage would take place during September.

Muslim Central Committee President K S Muhammad Masood, Yenepoya Muhammad Kunhi, S M Rasheed, DK District Wakf Advisory Council President Usman Haji, Haneef Haji, Hameed and others were present.
