Road horror

Jeddah, Jul 29: Eight people were killed and 17 injured in two separate road accidents in the Madinah region on the first day of Eid on Monday.

“Seven people were killed in a road accident when three cars collided on Safina road near the Bayzan valley in Madinah on Monday,” Col. Khalid Al Juhani, Civil Defense spokesman, said in a statement on Monday.

“All seven victims — four Pakistanis and three Saudis — were killed on the spot and another 10 were injured,” he said. “The bodies have been shifted to the Al-Mahad hospital morgue, while two of the injured are in critical condition,” he said. It is believed that the victims were heading to Madinah to perform Eid prayer when the speeding cars collided with each other in the wee hours of Sunday.

In another accident, one person was killed and seven were injured in a crash that occurred 20 km from Yanbu on the Jeddah highway on Monday. The injured were shifted to hospital in Yanbu.
