Heritage comes alive in Mangalore

Mangalore, May 24: The Shrimanthi Bai Govt. Museum of Mangalore has taken an initiative to make people aware of the importance of preserving ancient archeological artifacts and promoting local culture and heritage as part of the international museum week celebrated from May 18 to 24.

A promotional event was organized at the museum on Saturday. The function was presided over by the curator of the museum Shejeshwar R and the chief guest was Prof. T Murugeshi who is a professor at MSRSR College, Shirva.

The professor spoke about the beauty of Kannada culture and also stressed on the need to preserve important archeological pieces as a reminder and knowledge source for generations to come.

He expressed his concern on the small number of museums in Karnataka and called upon the curator and all those present to promote the building of museums.

Prof. Murugeshi also said that every district in Karnataka needs a museum to promote the culture of the respective district.
