However, Mr Hithendra will continue to serve as the Commissioner of Police of Mangalore City.
While this is the first time in the four years of setting up of the commissionerate that an IPS officer of IGP rank will head the Commissionerate, the move will have three city police commissionerates of the state, i.e. Mysore, Hubli-Dharwad and Mangalore, barring Bangalore headed by IPS officers in the rank of IGP.
It may be recalled that when Mangalore commissionerate was set up on January 26, 2010, Gopal B Hosur, the then IGP (western range) was appointed as in-charge commissioner.
While he served the commissionerate till April 30, 2010, deputy IG Seemanth Kumar Singh took charge.
Both Mr Singh and Mr Hithendra have been promoted and Mr Singh will thus continue in the upgraded post as commander, ANF, Karkala.
