Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has deputed IAS officers Abhiram Shankar and Pankaj Kumar Pandey to gather information in Lucknow, according to the Chief Minister’s Office.

Expressing grief over the demise of the bureaucrat, Siddaramaiah said Tewari was working efficiently as commissioner of Food and Civil Supplies department. Reasons for the death are not known, he added.

BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje has requested Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to order a probe into the death of Tewari. In a letter to Adityanath, she said the officer was found dead under ‘suspicious circumstances’. As per some media reports, the body was found on the roadside at Hazratganj area of Lucknow. This, by itself, makes the death suspicious because it is incomprehensible to think that an IAS officer could be found dead on a roadside, she said.

The media has been putting up a story that the officer had a fight with his wife. “I strongly feel that there is something more than what meets the eye. Only a thorough enquiry can bring out the truth,” Shobha said.
