Karwar, Nov 16: Hundreds of volunteers including Indian Navy men, officials and their family members undertook a beach clean-up drive on Rabindranath Tagore beach in Karwar in the weekend. The beach-cleaning exercise was a part of Navy Day celebrations.

The cleanliness drive started at 7 a.m. from the London Bridge side and it went on for over two hours. The volunteers were split into groups and were entrusted with cleaning different spots.
The event also marked the conclusion of the annual maintenance of the warship museum at Karwar. The Naval officials said the event was also aimed at highlighting the Indian Navy's commitment towards environment conservation and in preservation of the fragile coastal ecosystem in and around coastal city.
As part of the Navy Day-2014, various events have been organised by the Naval Base in Karwar. While a volley ball championship is under way, a medical camp is being held on November 19 and 27. There will be sea swimming competition on a 1.8-km stretch in the open sea on November 20, drawing and painting competition for school children on November 23 and quiz competition on November 25.
