The Department of Fisheries on Monday warned fishermen of Udupi district against venturing into the sea due to a deep depression, which had developed there.
The fishing boats, which had gone into the sea, have been informed to return.
In Mangalore and surrounding areas rain and sun are playing hide and seek for couple of days.
Udupi district received 34.6 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. While Karkala taluk recorded 17.4 mm rainfall, Udupi recorded 7 mm and Kundapur received 10.2 mm rainfall.
No major damage was reported from anywhere in the district. Fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea, following a depression in the Arabian Sea. Fishing boats that are already out in the sea have been asked to reach the shore immediately.
Though the monsoon rains are yet to start in the coastal districts, sea erosion has already begun in Ullal, much to the surprise of many. Usually, sea erosion begins only after the region receives good or heavy rains.
