It is learnt that the girl and his male friend was inside car in front of her apartment complex at Frazer Town in the mid night when the four men attacked them.

The miscreants who posed as police drove the girl and her friend around the city in the car. One of the men sexually assaulted her, silencing her friend at knife-point. The victim and her friend were later dumped by the quartet.

In her complaint, the girl said she had been to a dinner on Friday night with friends. The male friend offered to drop the girl and two others home in his Honda City car. After other friends were dropped, the girl and her friend finally reached her house around midnight. They were sitting in the car and talking when a white Skoda Fabia car (KA 01 MJ 8433) passed by. The Skoda later returned.

It was around 12.15am. Four men alighted from the Skoda, barged towards the car in which the girl was sitting. Police said the quartet told the boy and girl that they had been seeing them in the car regularly. The men claimed to be police and asked the duo to open the car doors.

"They pushed us into the backseat of the car. There were two guys on either side of us, and two in the front," the girl told police.

Hyder began sexually assaulting the girl as the car began moving. The Skoda, with the fifth member at the wheel, tailed the Honda City.

"When I refused he threatened to take us to the police station, claiming that his friends and he were policemen," she said in the complaint.

When she tried to resist the rapist, he told her, "Give me five minutes and I will let you go." "The men kept driving around and stopped next to Cox Town railway block," she said.

Hyder's three associates alighted and pulled out the girl's friend from the car. They pointed a 'sharp object' against his neck, and asked him to keep his mouth shut. The victim was again allegedly raped by Hyder in the car.

The men later demanded Rs 50,000 from the victim and her friend. On realizing they had nothing, they took away the boy's watch. The men also threatened to call a police contact on Hyder's phone. Later, the girl and boy were allowed to go in the latter's car.

Friends catch the rapist

The victim reached home and narrated the ordeal to her parents before filing a complaint with the police the next day. However, the victim's friend, who had taken down the registration number of the car, began to search for the vehicle with other friends and noticed the car on Sunday, parked in front of a bakery on M.M. Road.

They waited for the accused to come out and caught him before informing the police.

Upon being questioned, Nasir confessed and gave the names of his associates. A special team has been formed to track down the accused, a senior police officer said.

Inspector suspended

Police inspector Mohammad Rafiq, attached to Pulakeshinagar police station, has been suspended for the alleged delay in filing an FIR.

An inquiry into the allegations revealed that Mr. Rafiq had not only delayed filing the FIR but also tried to book the case under a different section of the Indian Penal Code, ignoring the magnitude of the crime.

Sources added that Mr. Rafiq had delayed taking the victim for a medical examination and also delayed conducting a spot inspection.

The report was submitted by Deputy Commissioner of Police Satish Kumar to City Police Commissioner Raghavendra H. Auradkar, who suspended Mr. Rafiq.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.
