Mangaluru, Jan 7: In yet another embarrassing moment for Congress party in Karnataka, Legislative Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa has gone on to the extent of launching a scathing attack on veteran party leader and former union minister B Janardhana Poojary.

When media persons asked Mr Thimmappa in Bengaluru on Tuesday about Mr Poojary's remarks against him, the former initially refused to comment. However, after a brief pause, he said: œWhich Poojary? I do not know... I know how he entered politics and in which year he stepped into politics. I also know who is making him give such statements.
Mr Thimmappa strongly defended himself for being œvociferous in criticising the State government, even as voices of dissatisfaction against him grew louder among a section of ruling party legislators.
œI am speaking for the people. People who say that I?am working as a member of the Opposition party must know that I am only reflecting the people's aspiration, he said and dismissed as rumors that he had offered to resign from his post.
Many legislators, especially those who are close followers of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, are said to be unhappy with Mr Thimmappa for repeatedly attacking the government on issues related to administration. He has been venting his anger against chief minister and his Cabinet members for the last one and half years, criticising the government for œfailing to meet the aspirations of the people.
It is speculated that some of the legislators have complained against Mr Thimmappa to the Congress high command seeking his removal from the post of the Speaker. But there was no official confirmation in this regard. No copy of the letter was available to any Congressman or to the media.
Earlier on Tuesday, Health Minister U T Khader met the Speaker and briefed him about the measures taken for recruitment of doctors in government hospitals. Mr Thimmappa had taken Khader to task during the recent winter session of the legislature in Belagavi for failing to fill vacancies in government hospitals.
