Bantwal, Apr 12: Five persons belonging to both communities were arrested by police in connection with recent communal clashes in Kalladka town of Bantwal taluk.
The arrested have been identified as Haris, Siddeeq, Amith Poojary, Pushparaj and Rajesh. All the five were produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
Kalladka had witnessed communal clashes on Thursday night and Friday afternoon. Several people had sustained injuries in the clashes.
Meanwhile, local PFI leader Zakariya and Hindutva activist Ramesh were taken into custody for inquiry and released by the police. A group of PFI activist staged a protest in front of Bantwal town police station with Mr Zakariya was taken into custody for inquiry. On the other hand BJP leaders too met Superintendent of Police Dr Sharanappa and submitted him a memo demanding the release of few of the arrested.
However, no major untoward incident was reported in the town on Saturday. Police sources said that the prohibitory orders will continue in the town till Saturday night.
Meanwhile, the town is returning to normalcy once again. Most of the shops were open on Saturday.
