New Delhi, May 14: All India Congress Committee (AICC)?general secretary K C Venugopal has sent a list of names to the party's top brass for the post of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president.

Venugopal
Venugopal, who met Rahul Gandhi here on Friday, is understood to have suggested the names of Water Resources Minister M B Patil, former minister S R Patil and Energy Minister D K Shivakumar for the KPCC president’s post. According to party sources, he also said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah favoured either S R Patil or M B Patil for the key post.

However, the party sources ruled out the possibility of making Congress leader in the Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge as KPCC president. Since the high command has so far not decided whether to relieve him of the current responsibility of leader of the party in the Lok Sabha, his name is not in consideration for the state unit president, said the sources. Earlier, there was talk that Kharge, who recently assumed charge as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), would be relived as the floor leader and sent as state unit chief.

Venugopal is also learnt to have brought to the party top brass' notice that there was lack of co-ordination between incumbent KPCC president G Parameshwara and the chief minister. He also said that a section of leaders has cautioned the party on removing a Dalit leader saying it would send a wrong message to the community, sources said.

While mentioning about the volley of complaints he received against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and G Parameshwara during his visit to Bengaluru early this week, Venugopal also said that the government and the party were not concurring on many issues and the old Congress leaders felt alienated, sources said.

Venugopal also suggested that only such a person, who should be able to bridge the gap between the government and the party and take everyone along, be appointed to the KPCC president’s post. Taking into account all these views, the party is likely to appoint the new chief by the end of this month, sources said.
