Udupi, Aug 1: Baby Poojary, mother of Kavya Poojary, a class 10 student of Alva’s High School, Moodbidri, who was found dead in her hostel room on July 20, alleged on Tuesday that her daughter was murdered. Kavya did not commit suicide, she said.

She was speaking at a dharna, organised by the district unit of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, in front of the Clock Tower, here.
Ms. Poojary, who was emotional, said that the physical education teacher of the school should be investigated. Neither she nor her husband, Lokesh Poojary, had ever told the authorities that it was not a case of murder. What was the hurry to shift the body from the hostel to the mortuary? She wanted to know who shifted the body.
She said that it was only after her daughter’s death that she learnt that such incidents of suicide had taken place in the school earlier also. “If I had known it, I would not have put my daughter in that school,” Ms. Poojary said. She could not hold back her tears and broke down.
Robert Rosario, who is helping the victim’s family in the matter, said that while Kavya was dead, there were systematic efforts being made to defame her.
Kavya’s life was immeasurably valuable than the reputation of some big persons. The way the police had investigated the matter was extremely suspicious. Evidence appeared to have been destroyed, he alleged.
Prasanna Kumar Shetty, vedike leader, said that nobody believed that the local police were investigating the matter impartially. Hence, it was better this matter was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
He alleged that there had been cases of suicide earlier also in Alva’s educational institutions.
He alleged that these cases of unnatural deaths had been covered up. Why was it that the big politicians of the district had not visited the house of Lokesh Poojary and consoled the family, he asked.
