Kerala MLA Shamseer gets 3 months jail forprovocative speech'

Kannur, Nov 25: The judicial first class magistrate in Kannur on Thursday awarded three months of imprisonment and Rs 2000 fine to Thalassery MLA A N Shamseer, on the charge of threatening the police in a controversial speech made in 2012.

According to police, the case was registered on July 20, 2012, when Shamseer was the district president of the DYFI. The imprisonment has been awarded in a case registered under Section 117(E) of the Kerala Police Act and other relevant sections of the IPC, including Section 506.

The case was registered for criminal intimidation by blocking the road and also for making threatening and abusive remarks against the then SI of Kannur Town police station, K Sanalkumar, during a march to the office of the district police chief.

The case was that the MLA, who was then the DYFI leader, threatened the police that if the agitators are targeted they would target the police officials also in the same manner. When contacted Shamseer said he has already taken bail in the case, and further steps would be taken accordingly.
