‘Kiss of Love’ organisers held for 'sex racket' in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 18: Two organizers of the “kiss of love protest” were among 6 pimps who were arrested by Kerala police allegedly on charges of running an online sex racket using minor girls.

Crime branch wing of the police arrested Rahul Pasupalan and his wife Rashmi Nair, who had initiated the social media campaign for last year’s “kiss of love” protest against moral policing. They were nabbed from Kochi in the early hours of Wednesday during a statewide raid against online sex rackets.

Pasupalan is a film activist and his wife Nair is a model. The couple has been known for their active intervention in social and political debates in media. A prominent Malayalam TV channel had listed Pasupalan as one of the 10 contestants for the coveted honour of “Newsmaker 2014” of that media group.

Police sources said that a person named Abdul Khadar alias Akbar, a native of Kasaragode, is the kingpin of the racket involving the celebrated couple. Police picked up his mobile phone number from a classified website, locanto , and tracked down others allegedly engaged in procuring and supplying minors to customers.

Akbar used to first entice the customers showing the photographs of Nair. After negotiating the deal, they would lead the customers to minor girls, police said.
Sources said Nair was involved in the racket along with her husband, Pasupalan. Her social media updates have given enough evidence that both have been engaged in trafficking of children.

“Police had approached the couple as customers. As per the deal, four policemen posing as customers went to a hotel near airport on Tuesday night. Nair had taken her six-year-old son to the hotel yesterday night to give an impression of decency. She has also arranged two minor girls, both siblings. They were flown from Bangalore,” sources said.
Sources said if the police had not busted the racket on the previous night, the minor girls would have been repeatedly abused by at least four persons by Wednesday evening.

Police said preliminary inquiry revealed that the couple and Akbar, the kingpin, have close links with child trafficking rackets in Bangalore. The arrested persons, all pimps, told the police that the online trade has been for last one year, but we have only evidences for their operation in the last three months. “The couple has been active for last three months, soliciting customers with photographs of children. However, we have no direct evidence how many children have been abused in the past,” sources said.

Police said two more women were involved in the case registered on Wednesday. They have managed to escape from police during the raid.

In another case, crime branch police arrested six persons on charges of creating a facebook page “kochu sundarikal” (little beauties), where they posted minors’ photographs and made obscene comments.

Police said the prime accused in this case is Ummer, of Vettichira from Malappuram. Employed in Dubai, he has been the admin of the page. The five others were arrested for posting children’s photographs with sexual comments below them.

Mangaluru, Dec 2: Mangaluru International Airport responded to a medical emergency late on Monday night. Air India Express flight IX 522, travelling from Riyadh to Thiruvananthapuram, was diverted to Mangaluru Airport after a passenger in his late 30s experienced a medical emergency on board.

The Airport’s Operations Control Centre received an alert regarding the passenger’s health condition. The airport activated its emergency response protocol, mobilising the airport medical team and coordinating with stakeholders including CISF, immigration, and customs.

Upon landing, airport medical personnel attended to the passenger, assessed his condition, and arranged to shift him to a local tertiary-care hospital for further treatment. The passenger’s relatives accompanied the passenger, who incidentally received necessary medical care on board, which helped stabilise the situation.

Following the handling of the emergency, the flight departed for Thiruvananthapuram at 2:05 am on Tuesday.

"We appreciate the cooperation of all parties involved, and this incident reaffirms our ongoing commitment to prioritising passenger safety and readiness to respond to unforeseen emergencies with professionalism and care," the Airport spokesperson said.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.

Mangaluru, Dec 3: A group of Congress workers gathered at the Mangaluru International Airport on Wednesday to welcome AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, but the reception quickly turned into a display of support for Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.

Venugopal arrived in the city to participate in the centenary commemoration of the historic dialogue between Mahatma Gandhi and Narayana Guru. The event, organised by the Sivagiri Mutt, Varkala, in association with the Mangalore University Sri Narayana Guru Study Chair, is being held on the university’s Konaje campus.

KPCC general secretary Mithun Rai and several party workers had assembled at the airport to receive Venugopal. However, the moment he stepped out, workers began raising slogans backing Shivakumar.

The university programme will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

This show of support comes just a day after Siddaramaiah remarked that Shivakumar would lead the government “when the high command decides.” The chief minister made the comment after a breakfast meeting at Shivakumar’s residence—another public display of camaraderie between the two leaders amid ongoing attempts by the party high command to downplay their leadership rivalry.
