Udupi, Nov 4: Forest Department personnel rescued a three-and-a-half-year-old male leopard which had been caught in a snare at Hattiangady village in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district on Friday.

They informed the Forest Department around 10.30 a.m. The personnel reached the spot and surveyed the area and then got nets and a cage to catch the leopard.
As there were a lot of people around, they had to be dispersed and the operation to rescue the wild cat began around 12.30 p.m. The leopard was first freed from the snare and then captured in a net and then put in the cage. But this operation took about two hours.
Then the leopard was taken and kept at the Forest Department at Vandse. A veterinarian came and checked the leopard and said that the wild cat was healthy and could be left into the jungle. After getting permission from higher officials, the personnel left the wild cat into the Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary near Kollur around 6.30 p.m.
