Makkah hotel fire: 570 Umrah pilgrims evacuated

Makkah, June 7: Around 570 Umrah pilgrims from different nationalities were evacuated following a fire at a hotel in the holy city of Makkah, the Saudi Gazette reports.

One disabled occupant of the hotel was hurt in the mishap on Monday and his condition is stable now, according to Maj. Naif Al Sharif, spokesman of the General Department of Civil Defence in Makkah, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Al Sharif said

"The Civil Defence operations centre received information about the fire in a hotel on Ibrahim Al Khalil Street and soon the fire units rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire that broke out on seventh floor of the 14-storey hotel building. An investigation is underway to identify the causes of the fire"
