
Mangalore, Feb 23: Union minister of railways Mallikarjun Kharge flagged off the new daily superfast Intercity express train service between Mangalore Central-Madgaon, Mangalore Central-Kacheguda bi weekly express and Mangalore Central-Bhatkal Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) services announced by in the rail budget at Mangalore Central on February 23.
Speaking after flagging off Mr Kharge said that his ministry has requested the Commissioner of Railways Safety to review the report to make sure not more than two trains to run on the track especially ghat section of Mangalore-Bangalore stretch.
He said four more trains will be introduced from Karnataka to Jaipur. A total of 85 trains will be introduced as announced in the budget.
He also said that shortcomings in the new stretch will be rectified soon. He said that a report on transforming Mangalore Central, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode railway stations into World Class Stations has been submitted to the Railway Board by the Southern Railways. The ministry will sanction required funds for the purpose, Kharge said.
