Udupi, Apr 15: Police station in Malpe will be developed as a “tourist-friendly” police station, said Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj.

“A large number of tourists visit the Malpe beach. It is essential to provide them with adequate security and better facilities. Already, CCTV cameras have been installed at vital locations in the beach. The lighting at the beach has been improved. A walking track, with inter-lock tiles, was being developed at a cost of Rs. 24 lakh, while a small bridge was being constructed at a cost of Rs. 9 lakh,” he said.
The district administration would soon be purchasing a beach-cleaning machine at a cost of Rs. 48 lakh.
This would improve the cleanliness on the beach. All the roads from the National Highway 66 and State Highways leading to Malpe beach were being developed at a cost of Rs. 5 crore to facilitate smooth flow of traffic, Mr. Madhwaraj said.
S.J. Kumaraswamy, Deputy Superintendent of Police, said that of the two motorcycles provided, one would be stationed at the beach and another near the Sri Krishna Temple.
Both the motorcycles had the Control Room telephone number (0820-2526444) painted on them so that tourists could get in touch with the police in case of any emergency.
