Mangalore/Kasaragod, Jul 17: Indian President Dr Pranab Mukherjee will land at Mangalore International Airport on Friday afternoon and move towards Kasaragod by road.

Dr Mukherjee, who is scheduled to reach the helipad on the campus at 3.30 p.m., will be received by Governor Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb besides university officials, Collector P.S. Mohammed Sagir said.
In the event of poor visibility owing to overcast skies, Dr. Mukherjee would reach the venue by road from Mangalore, Mr. Sagir told a press conference, elaborating on the security details ahead of the President's visit.
Dr. Mukherjee would attend the nearly 90-minute convocation ceremony and confer honour on 567 students who had completed courses in six streams of the university in the last four years.
A specially erected venue for the purpose could accommodate 1,800 people. Entry to the venue would be restricted by specially issued identity cards.
Authorities had set up “safe rooms” at the CPCRI guesthouse where the Governor would be staying overnight, he said. The National Security Guards had taken charge of the makeshift helipad, he said.
Meanwhile, Mangalore Police Commissionerate sources said that all necessary security measures have been made to facilitate a smooth journey from Mangalore Airport to Kasaragod for Dr Mukharjee.
