Mangalore, Mar 28: In a novel way to attract voters and spread awareness among electorates to exercise their right to vote, electoral officials in Dakshina Kannada mobilised students from different colleges to form a human chain on Friday.

As part of Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme of Election Commission, students were seen forming a human chain in front of University College near Hampankatta, while NCC cadets from the naval wing posted stickers on passing vehicles urging citizens to vote.

Mangalore City Police Commissioner R Hithendra launched the campaign by posting one of several stickers on a passing two-wheeler.

Speaking to Coastaldigest.com, CEO of DK Zilla Panchayat Tulasi Maddineni said that around one lakh stickers had been printed by the district administration, as part of the SVEEP programme. These stickers will be distributed by students through similar campaigns near their colleges throughout the entire district. This novel drive is being organised by the district administration in collaboration with Joint Director of Education, she said.

A human chain is a form of demonstration in which people link their arms as a show of solidarity.
