Mangaluru, Mar 13: Two helpless girls aged around 10-years found begging near City Centre mall in the city have been rescued by the officials of Childline Mangaluru 1098.

Since the parents of these girls were alcoholics, they forced them to beg and used the money they got to consume liquor and sent them back for more once they ran out of money. Speaking Kannada, the girls are from a nomadic tribe. People who spotted these girls begging near the mall, informed officials of Child Helpline. When the rescue team came, four other children who were part of the group managed to escape from the scene, Sampath said.
These children and their families generally pitch tent along the road side at places such as Naguri, Padil and Mudipu. Sampath said these children were admitted to schools for nomadic children. However, they did not go to school and resorted to begging in and around City Centre Mall, Light House Hill Road, St Aloysius College, SBI main branch, Forum Mall and other important happening places in the city, not staying at one place for long.
