Mangaluru, Jun 8: More than four years after an elderly died following in an assault by his neighbours, who were irked by the former's pet dogs pooping near their house, a local court has pronounced judgement and imprisoned the accused for four years.

According to the charge sheet, Ganesh and his mother were unhappy with Narasimha and his wife as their pet dogs littered on the road near their house.
The police said on January 18, 2012, Ganesh and Shantamma reportedly threw stones at Meenakshi while she was moving on the road with her pet dogs. As she screamed, Narasimha rushed to help his wife. The police charged Ganesh and Shantamma of hitting Narasimha with an iron rod on his head and chest that led to his death.
Prosecutors Raju Poojary and Pushparaj Adhyantaya examined Meenakshi, Police Inspector Ravish Nayak, Police Sub Inspector Muniswamy Neelakantan and 21 other witnesses before the court.
C.M. Joshi, the judge of the first Additional District and Sessions Court, Tuesday sentenced Ganesh to four years of rigorous imprisonment and also pay a fine of Rs. 30,000. Of this fine amount, the judge had directed Ganesh to pay Rs. 25,000 to Narasimha's wife Meenakshi.
The court had also directed the District Legal Services Authority to pay Meenakshi compensation under the Karnataka Victim Compensation Scheme. The judge acquitted Shantamma for lack of evidence.
