The haemo-dialysis centre, consisting of 12 beds, will provide dialysis to patients suffering from acute or chronic renal dialysis. The centre was renovated and set up at a total cost of Rs 15 lakh donated by Karnataka Bank.

Speaking at a formal programme after inaugurating the haemo-dialysis centre, Mr Kagodu Thimmappa said that there were several faults and flaws in the administration of the health department in the state which should be rectified and efforts should be made to improve it. Effective work should be done for the improvement of the department with a definite vision, he said.

Speaking of the medical services at Wenlock Hospital, he said that special attention should be given to patients coming for treatment and counseling to the hospital from other districts. There are experienced doctors and good facilities at the hospital, and treatment should be provided to the poor people of the society earnestly in this regard. Maintaining cleanliness in the hospital and discipline in its management is also important, he advised the medical staff of the hospital.

He said that health was of utmost importance to man, since he could contribute immensely to the society only if he were healthy. Hence, greater priority should be given to our health, he added.

Talking at a brief workshop on ‘The Role of Elected Representatives towards a Healthy Society’, resourceperson Dr Durgaprasad M R said that the health care services provided by the health department were made acquainted and familiar to people largely by the elected representatives in recent times. “Today, we are aware of the existence of primary health centres, community health centres, taluk hospitals and government hospitals, and also the system of healthcare services because of the efforts of the elected representatives to reach out to poor people in the society,” he said.

Advocating people to spread information on the benefits and services offered by the government through various healthcare programmes and schemes, he requested them not to heed to falsified or maligning information regarding beneficial health programmes. “The governmental health centres utilise their resources for the benefit of patients and offer them good healthcare. We have to reach out to the healthcare facilities provided by the government and get benefits from them. For instance, to reduce the count of infant and maternal deaths after childbirth, mothers and families should obtain necessary information of facilities available for them under certain government schemes, from the nearest primary health centres, and utilise them for better health of mothers and infants,” he said.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
