Mangaluru, May 7: The authorities of the New Mangalore Port authorities have saved the life of a Ukrainian national, who suffered a stroke on board a ship off Mangaluru coast.
The authorities received a ‘distress message / medical assistance require’ through email from master of MT flagship Orchid on Saturday at 8: 10 p.m. The ship was enroute to Sikka in Gujarat and coming from Singapore. The steamer agent is Atlantic Shipping Pvt Ltd, Mangaluru.
According to the master, there was a medical emergency for a Ukrainian crew member Sergiy Nalyvayko (40), who suffered a major stroke and couldn’t use his left part of the body. Master also informed that ship would reach New Mangalore Port limit after midnight.
New Mangalore Port authorities promptly responded to the distress call and arranged Port tug for medical evacuation. Patient was successfully evacuated using Port Tug at 12: 35 a.m. on Sunday and taken to A.J. Hospital, Mangaluru through their steamer agent. Patient is under observation however condition is presently stable.
