Mangaluru, Nov 19: The overwhelming crowd of youth looking for employment opportunities at ‘Mangaluru Udyoga Mela’ hosted by Dakshina Kannada district administration in Bantwal taluk, served to prove the serious requirement of creating viable job opportunities for educated unemployed and graduates passing out from colleges each year.
Reiterating the necessity for feasible employment opportunities, Magsaysay Award winner and Managing Director of SELCO India Dr H Harish Hande said that unemployment was a serious concern and the government should focus on creating job opportunities for the young generation.
The terrorists who held attacks in Paris came from districts with the highest unemployment rate in Belgium and France. This shows that unemployment is a big issue which can become a threat to the potential future of the youth, he said.
Speaking after inaugurating the Mangaluru Udyoga Mela at Canara College of Engineering, Benjanapadavu in Bantwal taluk on the outskirts of Mangaluru on Thursday, Dr Hande said that terrorism and religious hatred was rising in different parts of the world because people had too much time in their hands. Karnataka should become a national and international centre for innovation including rural innovation in farming, technology and other sectors, which would create suitable job opportunities for aspirants not only in the state, but even at an international level.
Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner of Employment and Training, Department of Labour J Manjunath stressed on the need for initiating skill development workshops to increase skilled workforce in India, which was far lower than most developed countries such as UK, USA, Japan and South Korea.
The Udyoga Mela was inaugurated in the presence of Minister of Forest, Ecology and Environment B Ramanath Rai, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, Zilla Panchayat CEO P I Shreevidya, Superintendent of Police Dr S D Sharanappa, chairman of Alva’s Group of Institutions Dr M Mohan Alva, Mangaluru Urban Development Authority chairman Ibrahim Kodijal, KCCI president Rammohan Pai Aroor and others.
With nearly 15,000 aspirants, including around 14,300 online registrations and around 700 spot registrations, the job aspirants were colour-coded based on their educational qualifications like SSLC, PUC, ITI, Diploma, graduation, post-graduation, medical, para-medical and engineering graduates. They were segregated as per the company’s specified requirements.
