Vijayapura, May 8: Claiming that many BJP and JD(S) leaders were interested in joining the Congress, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, however, said that the party would admit them only after “proper scrutiny”.

Addressing presspersons before attending the wedding of Congress MLA Raju Algur’s daughter here on Sunday, he said that the Congress was in no haste to admit BJP leaders willing to join the Congress.

On the statement of Leader of the Opposition in Council K.S. Eshwarappa that the Congress cannot gain any political advantage out of the “internal differences” in the BJP, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that there was no need for the Congress to gain any political mileage out of their “internal differences”.

“People will vote the Congress based on its work; internal bickering in the BJP has nothing to do with the Congress’ fortunes,” he said.

On the appointment of new KPCC chief, the Chief Minister said that the Congress high command would take a final call on it at the appropriate time.

Asked when the Cabinet would be expanded as two Ministerial posts were vacant, Mr. Siddaramaiah clarified that it was not Cabinet expansion. “Only two seats are vacant and they will be filled soon,” he said.

On the BJP’s campaign to make the State Congress-free, Mr. Siddaramaiah chided BJP leaders asking them to ponder why the BJP lost both seats in the recent by-elections in Nanjangud and Gundlupet.
