Mangalore, Jun 21: A history-sheeter was brutally hacked to death by unknown assailants in Maripalla near Farangipete on Saturday evening.
Naushad (27) was confronted in front of Maripalla masjid by seven unknown assailants who allegedly came in a four-wheeler and attacked him with swords and sickles.
According to sources, his assailants stabbed him multiple times and also chopped his hand before fleeing from the scene. Naushad died on the spot.
The police said that Naushad, a local resident, had been an accused in 12 criminal cases registered in several police stations in the district. He is also an accused in Nooruddin murder case that occurred in January 2012.
Nooruddin was a member of the same gang who is said to have been killed over financial issues. It is suspected that Naushad was murdered with a motive of revenge for Nooruddin 's murder.
Naushad 's friend Shameen, who was present at the scene, suffered minor injuries from the attack. He is being treated at a private hospital in Mangalore.
The assailants also damaged his car and smashed the windows before they fled from the scene.
A blood-stained sickle used for the murder was recovered by the police near the scene of the attack. However, the identity of the assailants or the car they arrived in is not yet known.
Following the murder, a large number of people began to gather at the spot and a tense atmosphere prevailed in Bantwal taluk. Sleuths from jurisdictional Bantwal Rural Police station rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
