Dubai, Sep 29: Air India Express has elevated Melwin D'Silva to the post of its regional manager for Gulf, Middle East and Africa.
Mr D'Silva, who hails from Kulshekhar in Mangalore, is said to be first from Karnataka to secure this coveted position in one of the major airlines in the world.
With this he will be in charge of Air India stations in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, and other middle eastern stations besides Africa.
This elevation has revitalized the hopes of expatriate Mangaloreans in Gulf, who are demanding for better aviation facilities from Air India Express between Mangalore and oil-rich Arab countries.
An MBA graduate from B.K. School of Business Management affiliated to Gujarat University, Mr D'Silva started his career in airline from Ahmadabad.
For two long terms -between 1998 and 2002, and between 2011 and 2013 - he has also severed as the Mangalore Station Manager of Air India Express.
