Mangaluru, Jan 19: The riot-mongers have continued to randomly target religious centres and places of worship belonging to Muslim community in the rural areas of Belthangadi and Puttur taluks in the aftermath of Virat Hindu Hrudaya Sangama held in Puttur three days ago.
After vandalizing Badria Juma Masjid at Karaya, near Uppinangady and attacking a Madrasa at Ilanthila village in Belthangadi taluk, the miscreants owing allegiance to Sangh Parivar targeted two more religious centers in the region.
Police have confirmed that a Masjid at Kanyadi village under the limits of Belthangadi Police Station and a Madrasa in Kudradka under the jurisdiction of Punjalkatte Police Station in Belthangadi taluk were attacked by the miscreants.
A group of arsonist has set a Madrasa building ablaze causing huge losses in the weekend night. Run by Al Ameen Jamath Committee at Kudradka village, the makeshift Madrasa was built nearly six months ago after purchasing a land. The fire was noticed by a Muslim family residing near the Madrasa in the wee hours of Sunday.
On the other hand police personnel had been deployed as part of precautionary measures at Kanyadi Masjid. However, miscreants, pelted stones at on-duty police personnel and Masjid building and fled from the scene.
Police sources said that CCTV camera installed in the Masjid after a similar attack a few months ago has captured the images of culprits and search is on for them.
Meanwhile, Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Dr Sharanappa, issuing a stern warning to riot mongers, said that special teams have been formed to nab the culprits who attacked religious centres and disturbed peace in the society after Friday’s event. One person has been arrested in connection with stone pelting at Kanyadi Masjid, he said.
