Mangalore, Jul 2: The new office of Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel was inaugurated on Thursday in the deputy commissioner's office complex, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim.
BJP district president Pratap Simha Nayak, former minister Krishna J Palemar, former MLA Yogish Bhat and others were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kateel said that his presence at the new office would facilitate better communicate with the citizens and help in resolving their problems in a better manner.
To ensure direct communication and accessibility to people, he said that he would soon begin public grievance meetings with people.
Speaking on the Yettinahole project issue, he told mediapersons that he had discussed the issue with Union minister for Water Resources Uma Bharati and asked her to intervene in the project. He said that it was not right on the part of the state government to implement the Yettinahole project when there was not enough water in the Nethravati river for the needs of the people in the coastal district itself.
He also assured the commencement of a railway zonal office of Konkan Railways shortly in Mangalore.
New railway ticket counter inaugurated
Earlier, he also inaugurated a new Railway ticket reservation counter in the premises, to ease overcrowding at the reservation counter at Mangalore Central railway station.
Mr Kateel said that it was the first railway ticket counter from Palghat division to be opened in Karnataka. The counter will function with a target of making over a lakh reservations in a year. A sum of Rs 5 lakhs have been provided to the counter from the MP LAD fund, he said.
On the occasion, deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim, additional division railway manager Mohan K Menon, additional deputy commissioner Sadashiv Prabhu and others were present.
