Mangalore, Aug 3: Mangalore City Police City Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths arrested a murder accused who had escaped after nine years.
The arrested is Imran, an accomplice of Udupi based fugitive Siraj of Doddannagudde. He was held at Mangalore junction railway station on Friday.
Imaran had escaped near Bappanadu under Mulki police station limits on November 11, 2005.
Imran, along with Siraj Hassan, Yuvaraj Thingalaya, Gopal Bangera, and Riyaz Sheikh had allegedly murdered Rakesh Kola, a rowdy sheeter in Malpe police station close to Udupi Residency Hotel near Udupi City Bus Station on September 21, 2003. Rakesh was running a cable television network business. The accused, including Imran were lodged at the district jail here after police subsequently arrested them in this case, Hithendra said.
Imran made good his escape when district armed reserve police were escorting him and other accused in the case back to the district jail after appearing for a court hearing in Udupi. Imran reportedly had asked the escort personnel to allow him attend nature's call at a hotel near Mulki.
A case was registered against Imran in the jurisdictional police station based on a complaint lodged by the escort police personnel and efforts made to trace him.
