
Mangalore, Mar 1: The district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday released an 80-page booklet listing the achievements of sitting MP Nalin Kumar Kateel during his term as a Lok Sabha member from Dakshina Kannada.
The booklet was released by Mr Kateel himself in the presence of BJP district president Pratap Simha Nayak and MLC Monappa Bhandary.
Addressing mediapersons before releasing the booklet at the BJP district headquarters here on Saturday, Mr Kateel gave a brief account of the achievements made by him during his five-year term as Member of Parliament from 2009 to 2014.
He said that he had made his best attempts to implement projects in the district from funds under the Central scheme and utilised his post to the full extent to achieve progress and development in the district.
He said that according to a daily newspaper, his constituency (Dakshina Kannada/Mangalore) topped the list for fully utilising the sum of Rs 19.61 crore from the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund in the state. “I ensured that there was monthly and tri-monthly review meetings and follow-up of works taken up under MPLAD grants,” he said.
Stating that he had given priority to railway projects in Dakshina Kannada, he said that he had held tri-monthly meetings from the past five years to review projects under the railway division and helped in getting sanctions required for pending railway projects in the district.
He said that he chose to utilise the grants under the central scheme for various projects such as construction of highways under NHAI, roads under Prime Minister's Gram Sadak Yojna, works by Public Works Department, drinking water schemes for rural areas and several works under Sarva Shikshana Abhiyana.
He said that the book had been put together by his well-wishers in the party.
