Bengaluru, Sept 28: Tejasvi Surya, the new chief of the BJP's youth wing, has drawn criticism over his remark that Bengaluru has become the "epicentre of terror activities". While his tweet on the matter has drawn attacks on social media, with many pointing out that Karnataka is ruled by the BJP, the opposition Congress has said the BJP should sack the new youth leader.

Congress's DK Shivakumar -- the longtime trouble-shooter who is now heading the party's state unit -- said, "The BJP should sack him. He is killing Bengaluru. It is a shame or the BJP".

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has expressed support for the young MP. "'I have been asking the Prime Minister for NIA here for some years now. I congratulate the PM and Home Minister for agreeing," he said.  Asked whether he endorses Mr Surya's statement, Mr Yediyurappa said , "He just said in this sense that nowadays in Bangalore terrorist activities are increasing".

In an interaction with the media yesterday -- a first since he was named for the new post -- Tejasvi Surya said, "In last few years, Bengaluru, the Silicon Valley of India, has become the epicentre of terror activities. It has been proved through many arrests and sleeper terror cells busted by the investigative agency in the city".

Among evidence, the MP cited the recent mob attacks at the city's KJ Halli and DJ Halli areas.

"It is a matter of grave concern that NIA investigations into the DJ Halli and KG Halli mob violence in August have indicated that many terrorist organisations are using Bengaluru as their incubation centre for carrying out anti-India activities," he said.

In August, three persons were killed in police firing and 60 policemen were injured during clashes at DJ Halli and KG Halli areas in the eastern part of Bengaluru. The violence had started over an offensive Facebook post, allegedly by the relative of a Congress MLA.

The MP, who represents Bengaluru South in Lok Sabha, said he has asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah to open a cell of the National Investigation in the city.

"For a long time there was a demand that there must be a full-fledged NIA office in Karnataka," he said, pointing out that the Central agency currently has their base in Hyderabad.

Amit Shah, he said, has assured him "that the same will be established soon".

"In last few years, Bluru has become epicenter of terror activities, proven through many NIA arrests & busted sleeper cells in the city. I urged Hon HM Sri @AmitShah Ji to set up a permanent division of NIA in Bluru. I thank him for his assurance that it will be set up soon!" his tweet read.

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru North police have apprehended a minor in connection with alleged voyeurism incident reported in a private medical college in Mangaluru.

DCP (Law and order) Sidharth Goyal said that the minor was produced before JJ Board as per due procedure. The incident came to light when a mobile phone was found in women's washroom in the college.

The mobile-phone was discovered as it was ringing even when no one was in the toilet by the security guard of the college.

Investigations revealed that the mobile phone had been strategically placed in the restroom. As a result, a case has been registered under north police station.

Further scrutiny into the matter uncovered the identity of the accused, a minor male aged 17, who had gained access to the college premises under the guise of being a patient. Following his apprehension, the accused was presented before the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Board in adherence to legal protocols.

The phone has been seized and a case has been booked under IPC section 354 (C), said the DCP.

Mangaluru, May 8: The health officials in Dakshina Kannada are concerned over the increase in dengue cases in the rural areas of the district. They've seen 108 cases since January, compared to 45 last year.

Dr. Naveen Chandra Kulal, who works on controlling diseases spread by insects, says humidity makes mosquitoes breed more.

People storing water in pots and drums during summer also make more mosquitoes, he added.

In Lingappayyakadu village near Mulky, a survey found people store lots of water because they don't have regular drinking water. Dr. Kulal says this water becomes a place for mosquitoes to breed if containers aren't closed properly.

Dengue cases are also rising in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and other districts, he said. Even though there haven't been big groups of dengue cases in Dakshina Kannada yet, the health department is trying hard to stop it from spreading. They're doing things like teaching people how to prevent dengue and getting rid of places where mosquitoes can breed.

So far this year, Dakshina Kannada district has only had 16 cases of malaria. Dr. Kulal says many of these cases were among workers who came from other states to work on building sites.

Dr. Thimmaiah HR, who works for the health department, says if people have a fever, they should go to the nearest clinic or hospital. He also says they should get tested if they have symptoms of dengue or malaria and be careful about the hot weather.

Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday condemned the alleged sexual abuse of women involving Lok Sabha MP Prajwal Revanna, asserting that the BJP will not tolerate any insult to women.

Revanna (33) is the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, which went to polls on April 26.

Earlier in the day, the JD(S) suspended Revanna from the party with immediate effect.

“The issue regarding Revanna that has been reported in the media is very hurtful and cannot be tolerated in any way,” Shah told a press conference here.

“The BJP’s stand is very clear; we will not tolerate any insult to ‘matri aur nari shakti’ (women empowerment),” he asserted.

Some explicit video clips allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, were circulated in Hassan over the last few days.

The home minister said Congress has been alleging that an NDA partner’s candidate is involved in the incident, “but I just want to ask a small question - whose government is there in that state (Karnataka)?”

“The Congress is in power in Karnataka, and this matter must have come to their attention. Why has it not taken any action on it so far? We cannot take any action as law and order is a state issue,” Shah said.
