He was speaking at a convention of street vendors organised under the joint auspices of CITU and Mangalore Street Vendors Association at NGO Hall here on Saturday.
Opining that lack of unity has led to the harassment of working class in the country, Mr Madhava called upon the street vendors in the Mangalore City Corporation limits to unite and fight for justice.
Criticising the system for the discrimination in framing the laws in the nation, he said the laws are usually in favour of the rich.
“The powerful minister Janardhan Reddy roams around freely despite having 35 warrants against him and on the contrary, the street vendors who have not committed any mistake are put into trouble,” he said.
CITU District General Secretary Vasanth Achari said that for the first time in the history of Mangalore, the street vendors have united together and organised for a cause. But the fight must not stop here, it should continue in future too.
The Association will fight against various injustices meted out against the street vendors in the days to come. An indefinite hunger strike will be staged from July 13, he informed.
