Mangalore, July 16: A senior officer of the department of Drugs Control was arrested on Saturday by Lokayukta police on charges of receiving bribes from medical stores in the surroundings of Thokkottu.
Acting on a tip off, a team of Lokayukta police led by Inspector Uday M Naik, arrested Ravidra Shah, Assistant Director of Drugs Control, at Samadhan Hotel in Thokkottu at around 7 p.m, while he was holding a meeting with the owners of medical shops.
14 envelopes containing a total cash amount of Rs 49,000 from were recovered from his possession. It is gathered that he had collected those envelops from the owners of 14 different medical shops.
The officer had allegedly demanded bribe from the medical shop owners for the renewal of licenses and to ignore their mistakes during inspection.
Mr Naik said that the officer's house, located at Gandhingar in the city was also raided.
