Mangalore, July 28: The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), which spent crores of rupees for concreting major roads in the city is now spending huge amount to cover up the mistakes of non shifting of the utilities by them during the concreting work.''

The corporation had concretised 17 roads in the city using the Chief Minister's Special Grant of Rs 100 crore in the first phase. However, utility lines including water supply pipelines, Under Ground Drainage, telephone and electricity cables were not shifted before the roads were concreted.

As a result, the Corporation is finding it difficult to plug any leakage in the water supply pipeline or Under Ground Drainage without cutting open the concrete road.
The corporation has already cut open the newly laid concrete roads at more than 42 places in the city for plugging the leakage of water supply or for repairing the cables and so on.

MCC Commissioner Dr K N Vijayaprakash said “as the MCC had failed to shift the utilities before laying the concrete road, the cutting open the already laid concrete road is inevitable with any leakage. The Mangalore City Corporation called for the tender for concreting the road without shifting the utilities two years ago.

As a result any problem in the leakage, we are forced to go for cutting open the concrete road. However, in the second phase of works to be undertaken under Chief Minister's special grant of Rs 100 crore, pipelines will be shifted before going for concretisation of the roads.”

At few places, the dug up concrete roads were not reconcretised. Instead, it was asphalted.

Some of the concrete roads which are pending for maintenance works are: in front of Kulai Vishnumurthy temple, Jeppu Kottadi road, near Baroda bank in Chilimbi, near Suprabhath building in Kapikad sixth cross, Mannagudda junction, near Syndicate Bank at Kottara, Kankanady hospital road, Bendorewell road, in front of Unity hospital and so on.

The already dug roads are Kadri Kambala-Kodialguthu road, Kankanady-Pumpwell road, Bejai Kapikad road, in front of Colaco hospital, in front of Pearl beauty parlour in Bejai-Kapikad, in front of Smile dental clinic in Bejai- Kapikad, in front of Roshni Nilaya, near Kankanady restaurant, Yeyyadi road, in front of Urwa Store police station, near Sapthagiri hotel in Kavoor and so on.

Solution

The Commissioner says the only solution to avoid cutting open the concrete road is 24X7 water supply wherein there would be evaluation and study of netwroking on water supply, which will help to identify the exact position where the leakage has taken place.

He said “now without knowing the place of leakage, the roads are cut open to plug the leakage. In fact, a sum of Rs 36 crore has been earmarked for inter connection of water supply. We have age old pipelines which are rusted and when the pressure of the water supply increases, the pipeline gets damaged, creating problems. Now we have one dimension of pipeline for the mainline and another dimension for the inter connection. As a result, the pipes get burst with the increase in the pressure of water supply. For the last one year, we have full fledged water supply from Thumbay vented dam. Earlier, we were getting 80 MLD water. With the completion of KUDCEMP works, the quantity of water drawn is 160 MLD. Many of the old pipes are unable to withstand the pressure and gets ruptured,” he said.

With the inter connection networking of the water supply, the problem on cutting open the concrete road will be solved to some extent.

At the same time, in the next phase of concreting of road, utilities will be shifted before laying the roads, added the Commissioner.

Bengaluru, May 2: Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister Deve Gowda, was issued fresh summons on Thursday by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which is investigating the case of obscene videos involving the former JD(S) member, several news outlets reported.

The SIT also junked his appeal which sought seven days time to join the probe, as per these reports.

Prajwal and his father, H D Revanna, have sexual harassment and stalking cases filed against them over the matter. Gowda's son, H D Revanna, however, said that what took place '4-5 years ago' is now being turned into a legal case.

JD(S) in its core committee meeting suspended Prajwal from the party till the end of the probe. Prajwal, meanwhile, took to X to state he would join the probe in seven days time, asserting 'truth will prevail'.

Bengaluru, May 5: In a major development, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the sex video scandal involving JD-S MP Prajwal Revann on Saturday arrested his father and JD-S MLA H.D. Revanna following the rejection of his anticipatory bail plea in a victim kidnapping case by the People’s Representative Court in Bengaluru.

H.D. Revanna was taken into custody from the residence of his father and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda in Bengaluru’s Padmanabhanagar locality.

First, he was taken to the SIT office on the premises of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). After preliminary questioning, the former JD-S minister was taken to the Bowring Hospital for a medical check-up.

Sources said he will be produced before the magistrate at the latter's residence later.

Commenting on the development, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told mediapersons that he won’t interfere in the matter.

“Action should be initiated as per the law,” he said.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said, “We will not interfere in anything related to this matter. Let them get protection from the court under the law."

Shivakumar also said that let the proceedings follow the manner suggested by former CM H.D. Kumaraswamy.

Quoting a Kannada proverb, Kumaraswamy had said that those who commit crime must be punished.

The SIT officers reached the former PM’s residence soon after the court turned down his anticipatory bail plea in a case related to the kidnapping of a woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted by his son Prajwal Revanna, the sources said.

Earlier on Saturday, the SIT traced the kidnapped woman to the farmhouse of Rajashekar, the personal assistant (PA) to H.D. Revanna, at Kalenahalli village in Mysuru district.

In the court, Special Public Prosecutor B.N. Jagadish submitted that the case is about saving the life of a poor woman.

Jagadish argued that H.D. Revanna did not turn up before the authorities even after being served three notices.

Senior counsel Muthy D. Naik, appearing for H.D. Revanna, argued that the only allegation against his client is a statement that he had called the victim to his residence.

Barring this, there is nothing to prove the role of H.D. Revanna in this case, he argued, adding that the statement was made by an accused in the case, with whom his client has no connections.

He also claimed that the SIT has deliberately added IPC Section 364A, which attracts life imprisonment and capital punishment, to ensure that his client’s bail plea is rejected.

The other IPC Sections invoked in the case — 363 and 365 — attract imprisonment of less than seven years. Therefore, to prove the innocence of H.D. Revanna, he should be granted bail, Naik submitted.

Meanwhile, the woman, who had gone missing on April 29, was found locked up in the farmhouse when the SIT officers reached there following a tip-off.

Sources said Rajashekar is absconding ever since the SIT traced the missing woman to his farmhouse.

The woman is being brought to Bengaluru where her statement will be recorded.

On Friday, Karnataka Police registered an FIR against H.D. Revanna in connection with the kidnapping of the woman, believed to be one of the victims of the sex video scandal involving his son Prajwal Revanna.

The woman’s son had registered a kidnap case naming H.D. Revanna as the prime accused in the case.

His relative Satish Babu was named as the second accused in the FIR, whom the police arrested from Mysuru district on Friday.

The woman’s son alleged that his mother went missing after the surfacing of a purported sex video in which Prajwal Revanna could be seen sexually assaulting her.

He also alleged that his mother was locked up in an undisclosed location, as he pleaded with the police to initiate legal action against H.D. Revanna and Satish Babu.

Prajwal Revanna, the sitting JD-S MP from Hassan, has reportedly fled from the country.

Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday condemned the alleged sexual abuse of women involving Lok Sabha MP Prajwal Revanna, asserting that the BJP will not tolerate any insult to women.

Revanna (33) is the BJP-JD(S) alliance candidate for Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, which went to polls on April 26.

Earlier in the day, the JD(S) suspended Revanna from the party with immediate effect.

“The issue regarding Revanna that has been reported in the media is very hurtful and cannot be tolerated in any way,” Shah told a press conference here.

“The BJP’s stand is very clear; we will not tolerate any insult to ‘matri aur nari shakti’ (women empowerment),” he asserted.

Some explicit video clips allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, were circulated in Hassan over the last few days.

The home minister said Congress has been alleging that an NDA partner’s candidate is involved in the incident, “but I just want to ask a small question - whose government is there in that state (Karnataka)?”

“The Congress is in power in Karnataka, and this matter must have come to their attention. Why has it not taken any action on it so far? We cannot take any action as law and order is a state issue,” Shah said.
