
Mangalore, Feb 11: The second foot over bridge at Mangalore Central Railway station was inaugurated by Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, in Mangalore on Monday.
The foot over bridge, having a width of 3 metres, now connects platform no.1 with platforms no.2 and 3 of the station. The bridge has a steel structure with a concrete pathway and is equipped with non-slippery heavy duty ceramic tiles. The roof has been covered with galvanized aluminium sheets.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kateel said that the bridge has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 75 lakhs and thanked Piyush Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Palakkad Division, and other Railway officers for their cooperation in this regard.
The MP stated that demands with respect to certain train services continue to remain before the Railway Department and expressed hope that they would be fulfilled soon. Among the demands placed before the Railway authorities are convenience in timing for Mangalore passengers in the Mangalore-Karwar train, introduction of a local train from Mangalore to Subramanya besides additional train services to Kerala, he said.
Tender process for the Padil over bridge has already begun, Mr. Kateel said expressing hope that Jeppu -Kodpady and Baikampady bridge works will also be completed as soon as possible. Work towards making Mangalore Central Railway Station a 'World Class Railway Station' is also in progress and a consultant agency has already been fixed to determine the criteria for the same, he said.
Mr. Agarwal briefed media persons on the cleanliness drive which has been taken up by the Railway Department as per the order of the government for better cleanliness standards in railway stations and train journeys. School children participated in an awareness campaign on cleanliness at the railway station as well.
