Mangalore, Feb 21: The second day of the nation-wide strike called for  by the trade unions, on Thursday missed the fizz as the port city hardly had compliance to the bandh.

Things were close to normal with shops open and vehicles plying as usual on the streets. The bandh was largely successful yesterday but most shops re-opened today.

Buses and auto-rickshaws were also seen plying on the city roads although the traffic signals remained off, in the early part of the day. Banks however continued to disappoint customers as bank employees have shown support to the bundh.

Students were seen in college campuses and most schools also reopened today.

The two-day strike is “a bit too much” said N Prakash, Deputy Commissioner, DK, while stating that the city cannot afford to shut down for two long days. Government offices were open as usual.
