Addressing media persons at a news conference in Mangalore on Thursday, Dr. Prashanth Marla, Medical Director, A J Hospital and Research Centre, said that the hospital had already received ISO certification in the past. But NABH certfication is the highest quality seal and the hospital is proud to have attained it.
“Our hospital is among the 116 hospitals to have got this accreditation. In the whole of Karnataka, there are 5 to 6 hospitals which have NABH accreditation, most of them in Bangalore. As far as coastal Karnataka is concerned, A J Hospital is the first to have received it”, Mr. Marla said.
Patients will be the biggest beneficiaries of this accreditation because they will derive best care, services and treatment by professionally trained and well qualified medical and para-medical staff. The hospital has fulfilled all criteria laid down by NABH to get accreditation such as keeping the hospital less infection free, evidence based treatment, quality care etc., Mr. Marla said.
Ramesh Pai, Dean, A J Institute of Medical Sciences, said that students of the Institute have fared extremely well in academics and that the Institute has bagged a record 50 ranks in MBBS and MD streams combined.
Mr. Pai made a special mention of Dr. Santhosh Narayan for winning 17 gold medals from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, on completion of his MBBS course. Dr. Narayan has set a new record by winning highest individual gold medals in RGUHS besides becoming the first student to bag first rank from first year to final year.
Dr. B Suresh Chandra, Dean, A J Institute of Dental Sciences, said that BDS students too had performed well in academics and a total of 21 ranks have fallen in the Institute's kitty.
A J Shetty, Chairman, A J Hospital and Research Centre, said that the hospital has shown marked improvement in a short span of time. A new cancer section of the hospital will be inaugurated on April 24, Mr. Shetty said. The hospital will continue serving the poor and provide free treatments to the deserving, Mr. Shetty assured.
