
Mangalore, May 4: The Income Tax officials along with police raid self claimed tantrik Chandrashekar Swami's RT Nagar residence in Bangalore on Saturday evening.
Swami hailed from Mulki, Mangalore taluk in Dakshina Kannada district.
The officials have seized Rs 1.1 crore in cash, 15 kg gold and 55 kg of silver during the raid that began at 4.30 pm and went on till late night.
Sources in the BBMP said Palike Commissioner Siddaiah received information on Saturday about the huge amount of cash at Swami's residence and directed D Kiran, Additional Commissioner (Finance), who heads the model code of conduct squad, to conduct a raid.
Soon, Kiran swooped down on the fortune-teller's residence and seized the cash and valuables. He then alerted the I-T department which conducted a raid.
The raid also exposed transaction to the tune of Rs 60 crore between Swami and various politicians through his bank account. Wades of currency bundled in bags with the symbol of different political parties were found in his house.
Sources said politicians cutting across the party line frequently visited Swami. They even claimed that he was one of the priests who had performed rituals for the marriage of Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The State government had provided top security to Swami, but withdrew the facility in the wake of criticism.
