Mangalore, June 7: If builders are found violating norms and not paying attention to maintenance of hygiene at construction sites, their work licences will be cancelled, N Prakash, Deputy Commissioner, DK, has said.

Chairing a meet of builders, civil engineers and Health Department officials of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) at the city's municipal corporation office on Thursday, Mr. Prakash said that it is the builders' responsibility to take care of labourers and address their health issues.
Many complaints of builders not providing basic facilities to migrant labourers have come to the notice of the district administration, he said.
The MCC's Health Department in its survey covering 383 construction sites has found that aspects of health and hygiene have been neglected in most of these cases. A total of 13 sites were found breeding mosquitoes. If no action is taken by builders during the second round of survey, stern steps will be taken against them, the Deputy Commissioner said, warning that he will personally visit such sites in the days to come.
Taking objection to dumping of construction wastes and building materials in drainages and roads by certain builders, the Deputy Commissioner said that the municipal Commissioner has already sent tippers to such spots and got rid of the waste, besides levying the charges of the operation on the builders concerned.
